Hello families,
It was great to be able to get back into the classroom this week! Students were definitely excited to be back and we had a great week.
Both grade 2 and 3 students spent this week learning about 2 dimensional shapes in math. Grade 2 students examined triangles and quadrilaterals and found examples of these shapes in the real world. Grade 3 students focused on defining different polygons such as triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons and octagons. Below are some quotes from students reflecting on this week's learning:
In math this week we learned about geometry, doubles for addition. In geometry we learned about making 2d shapes. 2d shapes have a width and a length. Also, 2d shapes are important because they are used everyday and you can see them everywhere!
In Science we learned about magnets. We learned that they stick to metal, and things that are not metal they do not stick to. - Nora
In math this week we learned about different polygons. A polygon has all straight sides and has to be a closed shape. Like triangles, hexagons and quadrilaterals. Quadrilaterals have 4 sides and 4 vertices. A vertice is where 2 lines meet to make a corner.
