December 13th-17th

 Hello everyone,

This week in math the grade 3 students continued to practice on their 3 digit subtraction with regrouping skills. The students have been working hard to master this skill and have shown a lot of pride in their hard work and improvement. Any continued practice on this concept at home will be beneficial as we move forward in Math.

Thank you everyone for your support and help during this first part of the school year. I hope everyone has a restful break spent with your families. Looking forward to welcoming back everyone on Tuesday, January 4th!

 Hello families,

This week in Social Studies the grade 2/3's have spent some time comparing our community here in Calgary to Atlantic communities in Nova Scotia. Students have been talking about landmarks that make our city special and unique. We have also looked at Atlantic communities and discussed different landmarks that exist there. We are currently in the midst of writing postcards to grade 3/4 students (without including any personal info) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia sharing about the Calgary landmarks that we think are important for them to know about.

I can investigate Canada's Dynamic Communities

November 22nd-26th

 Hello Families,

First of all thank you for taking the time to meet with me this week for parent conferences. If you were unable to schedule a meeting time please do not hesitate to contact me.

This week students were given the task to construct their final boat in Science. The boat has to be able to float, be stable and carry a load. There were a variety of materials students could choose from and had a n imaginary budget of $30 to spend on construction materials. It was awesome to see the amount of planning and calculations each group worked on and considered before "purchasing" their materials.

I can demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction and apply mental

 math and estimation strategies.

-I can construct objects that will float on and move through water and evaluate various designs for watercraft.

November 15th-19th

 Hello families,

This week the grade 2/3 classes got to practice some data management in Math while also calculating the amount of items collected for the Veteran's food bank. At the beginning of the week our class looked at pictographs and how to read them. Then students had practice on how to create a tally graph and pictograph. Students then had a chance to go into the gym and sort out the items by different categories and tally the items. In small groups we counted the category we were assigned and then reported back to the whole class. Once we gathered the data for each item, the next challenge was to add the different categories together to solve for our total. This was some tricky math but everyone worked really hard!

Lastly, we used our data and applied our knowledge of graphing this week to create a pictograph for our Veteran's food bank donations.

I can collect, display and interpret data to solve problems.

November 8th-12th

Hello families, This week our class had the opportunity to create our art pieces which will be a part of the fence project here at Ramsay school. Students were able to create a plan for how they wanted their art piece to look before painting. In the art room, there were a lot of comments about how fun it was to use the different sized paint brushes. It was great to see the engagement and the thought that went into each art piece. -I can use different tools and mediums to create my art. -I can join in activities and work cooperatively.
Notes for Next Week: Wednesday, November 17th Library Day Please return all books Wednesday, November 17th Community walk 1:20 PM-2:50 PM Have a great weekend, Drew Jackson

November 1st-5th

 Hello Families,

This week we have been working on writing a personal narrative. We talked about how a personal narrative is a true story from your live that is told in the order that events happened. We spent each day adding to our personal narrative stories and on Friday had a chance to revise and edit our work with a partner. Some key things we are focusing on in writing include using complete sentences, and starting our new sentences with a capital letter.

I can improve my work
I can work well with others to get things done.
I can use information to improve the quality of my work.
