 Hello Families,

In Social Studies, we have begun to look at the country of India. We looked at and reviewed the world map and where India is located. Circling back to our discussion of important landmarks in our community we contrasted that with famous landmarks that represent India, which included the Taj Mahal. We discussed the word symmetry and created our own Taj Mahal inspired art pieces using watercolour pencils.

As well, we are halfway through our dance residency. Everyone is participating and trying their best, the enthusiasm for this residency has been tremendous!

This week in math with Ms. Yasin, students took an exciting step in their number sense learning by exploring subtraction with regrouping (also known as borrowing)! This was a tricky topic so students took time to use manipulatives and prior number sense knowledge to help facilitate the regrouping required when subtracting double digit numbers. Students focused on using the place value strategy that they are familiar with to show their understanding of regrouping. Some students became comfortable with it and moved onto learning how to regroup and subtract in an algorithm setting! It was an exciting week in math with students stretching their minds and knowledge to absorb new material!

 Hello Families,

Whew, we packed a lot in this first week after the break.

In Phys. Ed. students had the opportunity to practice their tennis skills. Students who were familiar with the sport were great leaders and helpers sharing their knowledge as well.

In Science, we have begun to look at classifying rocks and learning about the rock cycle. Important vocabulary words for this unit will include sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks.

Grade 3 students demonstrated their multiplication and division skills by completing a dodecahedron including all of the concepts we have learned.

 Hello Families,

This week we finally had the opportunity to participate in reading buddies with another class! Our class helped the Kindergarten students to create a booklet on animals that hibernate. The grade 2/3 students displayed amazing leadership and kindness to the Kindergarten students and it was so great to be able to engage in learning with a different class.

Have an awesome break and we will see everyone back here at school on March 28th :)

I can show kindness to others.
